SITUATED ON THE EDGE OF BEAUTIFUL BUSHLAND THIS SUBURBAN HOME WAS IN NEED OF A LITTLE T.L.C. TO INVITE THE OUTSIDE TRANQUILITY INDOORS.

Our clients wanted to create a liveable, contemporary haven with subtle nods to Art Deco; which also expressed an underlying appreciation of time-worn imperfection and the ‘stories’ of objects and furniture, as conveyed in the ‘Wabi-sabi’ ethos.

We retained many of the couple’s antiques and handed-down furniture pieces complimenting them with deco-like scallop patterns and simple geometric forms. A tone on tone natural palette borrowed grey/green hues from the neighbouring gum trees which are beautifully enhanced by the clean ‘natural white’ walls. Small bursts of ochre and blue give visual interest and personality; and the slight shift in palette between rooms gives each space a unique mood whilst keeping clear visual cohesion.

This project also demonstrates a great example of kitchen refurbishment. We retained the cupboard carcasses and appliances; and the original counter top served as a substrate for the new 6mm quartz veneer: less cost, less waste and a senses of layered ‘story’. New door fronts, handles, tiled back-splash and an extended breakfast bar have completely rejuvenated the heart of this home.

Lived-in yet stylish, modest yet chic; and a sense of natural tranquility with refined elegance. These living spaces are eclectic and contrary but most definitely a welcome retreat.
